Afterword, by Eric Flint
Eric Flint discusses the characters of Trigger and Telzey.
Telzey, due primarily to her psi powers, is basically a loner. When she needs assistance, those helpers (except for Trigger) are basically her sidekicks, and her interaction with them is fairly brief.
Trigger, on the other hand, interacts with all the significant characters on the series (except for the detectives), on a more equal basis. Holati Tate and Pilch, and to some extent Professor Mantelish, are her mentors, and Heslet Quillan is her coadventurer and eventual love interest.
Trigger is a well-rounded character. Unlike Telzey, she doesn’t have significant psi powers (although eventually she discovers she has latent psi capability), so she relies on her intelligence, courage, tenacity and sense of principle. And of course her skill with her Denton firearm.
